COE-21 International Symposium, MISASA-III
“Origin, Evolution and Dynamics of the Earth”

The third COE-21 International Symposium at ISEI, “Origin, Evolution and Dynamics of the Earth: a tribute to Prof. Eiji Ito” will be held in Misasa, Western Japan, on March 21-23, 2008. A total of approximately 150 participants have registered to the conference.

Presentation Information

Oral Presentation

For oral presentations, speakers will give a talk using computers. Slide/Overhead/VCR projectors will NOT be available. We will prepare the following two laptop computers: - PC laptop (Windows Vista) with Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 - MacBook Pro (MacOS X 10.4) with Microsoft PowerPoint 2008 and Apple Keynote '07. Please take your PowerPoint or Keynote file to the registration desk on March 21, 2008. Please refrain from using your own laptop computer. The schedule of the symposium is extremely tight, so the committee would like to ask each speaker to carefully prepare their talk in order not to exceed their allocated time.

The conference fee will include main on-site costs: a welcome reception, lunch on the 22nd and 23rd, a banquet, refreshments and an abstract volume. Please note that the conference fee does not include the accommodation fee.

Travel information

Participants will arrive on March 21 (Fri) afternoon and depart on May 23 (Sun) evening.

From Tokyo-Narita International Airport:

Airport limousine buses leave every 15 min for Tokyo-Haneda Domestic Airport. The bus ride takes approximately 90 min. All Nippon Airways (ANA) connects between Tokyo-Haneda Domestic Airport and Tottori Airport, the nearest airport to Misasa (four flights per day). The flight takes approximately 1 hour. From Tottori Airport, an airport limousine bus takes you directly to Misasa. A limousine bus scheduled for Misasa leaves 10 minutes after each airplane arrival.

From Osaka-Kansai International Airport:

A railway service (Japan Railway) is available for transfer between Osaka-Kansai International Airport and Kurayoshi station, the nearest railway station to Misasa. The railway connection is as follows: (1) airport limited express "Haruka" from Osaka-Kansai International Airport to Shin-Osaka station (departing every 30 min); (2) limited express "Super-Hakuto" from Shin-Osaka station to Kurayoshi station (five trains per day).

Kurayoshi station to Misasa:

Misasa-cho Sogo Bunka Hall is located next to the Misasa town office. From Kurayoshi station, a local bus service to Misasa is available. You can take a bus bound for “Misasa Hot Spring (三朝温泉行き)” and get off at the “Misasa-cho Yakuba-mae (三朝町役場前)”. The Misasa-cho Sogo Bunka Hall is located in front of the bus stop. You can also take a Taxi from the Kurayoshi station (about 15 minutes ride).
