FAQ: Regarding application

(Q) I'm not student at moment. Can I apply?
(A) No. Only student (3rd,4th year of undergraduate, and 1st, 2nd year of graduate course) can apply.

(Q) I enrolled in graduate school recently, and I cannot provide the transcript. What should I do?
(A) You can send us the transcript of your undergraduate school.

(Q) I can only see the transcript on a PC, and cannot print it out. What should I do?
(A) Take a screenshot, and send it to us.

(Q) I'm currently studying in quite a different field. Can I apply?
(A) We will consider applications from anyone who meets the criteria outlined in the application form. However, it would be more likely for you to be selected if you can explain how you or us would benefit from you undertaking your preferred intern projects.

(Q) When will we be notified of the outcome of our application?
(A) By the end of April. Please note that this information should have been provided in an email after you submitted your transcript. Please make sure you received a notification email confirming receipt of your transcript.


FAQ: Once you are selected...

(Q) Can I arrive after the start of the program or leave before it has finished?
(A) No. However, you can arrive one day earlier or leave one day later, in order to allow you to travel between your arrival airport and IPM. This is per the regulations of Okayama University. If you violate this condition, then we will not be able to reimburse your international airfare.

(Q) Can I propose my own research project?
(A) No. You need to conduct one of the proposed research projects. If you wish to conduct your research in the Institute, you may apply for the Joint Use/Research Program later (with your supervisor) or apply for our graduate school program (please keep an eye on our webpage for future announcements).

(Q) Can I present the results obtained during the Internship program at conference or meeting?
(A) Maybe. You need to discuss this with your supervisor and get their permission.

(Q) My Japanese is poor, will I be able to undertake the internship program?
(A) English is exclusively used during the Internship program. But very basic Japanese will help you at local stores, and also during travel.

(Q) I was selected, and I want to prepare for the project before the program starts.
(A) Ask your project supervisor for more details concerning the project, and ask for suitable text books or references, so you can better understand the background concerning the project.

(Q) What kind of accommodation do you have?
(A) You will stay in our guesthouse near the Institute. We have furnished rooms, and you will need to share a room with other Internship students. Cooking facilities are available. Note you will only be able to share a room with a member of the same gender.
