We are hosting Misasa International Student Internship Program (2025)
Misasa International Student Internship Program (MISIP) has started from July 1. MISIP is an internship-type joint research program of the Joint Usage/Research Center for Earth and Planetary Material Science and is open to third- and fourth-year undergraduate students and first- and second-year master’s student thorough international recruitment. They will participate in the research projects proposed by the faculty members. This program gives students an opportunity to experience the world’s leading research activities through exposure to the world-class experimental and analytical techniques, to learn the way of thinking as a researcher, to improve presentation skills, to deepen cross-cultural understanding through sharing accommodation at the Misasa guest house and to build an international network of next-generation young researchers. More than 170 internship students have participated in the program’s history and many of them have entered Okayama University and the educational institutions around the world. They are currently active as researchers at major research institutions around the world. This year, 8 internship students from 7 countries, including China, Dutch, Japan, Korea, UK, Colombia and India have joined the program and they will conduct 3 research projects until August 7.
On July 1, an orientation, a welcome lunch and lab tour were held. At the orientation, Prof. Yoshino, Director of the IPM and Assoc. Prof. Kunihiro, Chairperson of the MISIP Committee gave the internship students an overview of IPM and MISIP. Additionally, they encouraged them to spend substantial research activities and international experience through MSIP. At the welcome lunch, Maria Isabel Echavarria Correa (4th-year undergraduate student・EAFIT University) from Colombia expressed her goals for the program and life in Japan, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of this amazing institute and collaborate with a project in such a unique field as planetary science. It’s also a pleasure for me to share with people from all around the world who share interest in geoscience. I’m looking forward to know my exchange partners, as well as learn more of Misasa and the culture of Japan, which I’m sure will help me to enjoy more my stay here.” The students interacted with faculty members and graduate students over lunch. During the lab tour, the students learned about experimental facilities and research activities, focusing on high temperature and pressure apparatus as well as comprehensive analytical system. So, they were ready for the full-fledged research that is about to begin. MISIP activities will be updated on our website, so, please visit our website.
